La Moskitia is located east of Trujillo, access is mainly by air or sea, because there are no good roads to the area, the transports depart either from La Ceiba or Trujillo. Its name comes from the land’s inhabitants, the Miskitos, who still keep many customs from their ancestors, including their tongue. Because of its rich vegetation, diversity of wildlife, the mostly unknown tropical rainforest, it’s a well known destination and perfect for ecotourism, giving many choices for the adventurous traveler. It is a Garden of Eden, perfect to help forget about the outside world, enjoying trips downriver on pipante canoes , interact with the native communities, explore protected areas, find some of the local fauna, birds, turtles, alligators, you will feel part of the divine creation. Bear in mind, the infrastructure is very basic, so some modern comforts will not be available.

Day 1:The expedition begins today to see Moskitia and part of the Río Plátano Biosphere, watching mangroves, coastal lagoons and tropical wetland eco systems. Early flight La Ceiba-Brus Laguna (2 hrs.) Trip by motorized canoe across Brus Laguna and the Kanku Raya canal to Raista (2 hrs.) Bird watching opportunities along the way, native filled canoes filled with bananas, yucca and other crops. Overnight at family lodging, 600 feet from the Caribbean shore (mosquito net, mattress and sheets, bucket shower and latrine) Optional visit to Miskito villages of Cocobila and Belen.
Day 2: After breakfast transfer by motorized canoe to Las Marias through canals and lagoon to the Platano River. Stop for lunch. Trip takes about 7 hours from Raista. Overnight at Las Marías.
Day 3: Hike through Las Marías (40 min.) to Batiltuk where pole canoes will row upstream the Plátano River to the petro glyphs at Walpaulbansirpe. Before lunch a 2 hour hike through the tropical rainforest. Return to Marías down the rapids. Don’t miss out the joy of floating the clear waters of the Platano River. Today is toucan day. Overnight at Las Marías.
Day 4: Return to the sea shore by motorized canoe to Brus Laguna (4.5 hrs.) Lunch and then explore the native communities. At night see the caimans by flashlight at the edge of the lagoon. Overnight at Brus Laguna (Miskito town) Hotel with private bath and fan.
Day 5: After tasting a natural paradise leave at 06:00 from Brus to Araslaya by bus or Pick up (10 min.) then take flight back to La Ceiba at 07:20. Flight time 50 min.
