Called Heart of the Country because of its location halfway between two oceans and between the colonial cities Guatemala and Leon in Nicaragua. The city is built along the Spanish checkerboard layout with a central square; there are many private buildings, museums and churches that keep secrets from Honduras’s colonial past. It is the old Capital, Comayagua still important to the nation for having a thriving industrial market and easy access, the country main highway runs next to city joining it with Tegucigalpa (80 Kms to the south) and San Pedro Sula (140 kms to the north). Even though time has passed there are many reminders of the charm and spirit on which the city was founded like the America’s oldest tower clock, still in operation.
